Citroen confirms WTCC program starting in 2014

Citroen Racing have confirmed that they will enter the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) from the 2014 season. The widely expected announcement comes after the French marque began evaluating a possible move into the series last September.

Whilst the car to be used has not yet been confirmed, Citroen have tested a prototype based on the successful DS3 WRC.

Citroen's record breaking nine time WRC champion Sebastien Loeb has been confirmed as one of the drivers for the team. The Frenchman has been competing in the circuit based FIA GT and Porsche Super Cup series in 2014 alongside a partial WRC campaign and an attempt at the legendary Pikes Peak Hill Climb in Colorado.

Other drivers have yet to be confirmed although former BTCC champion Alain Menu is expected to join Loeb. The Swiss driver competed in the WTCC from 2005-2012 with Chevrolet and has tested Citroen's prototype.

Citroen's long time partner Total has also been confirmed as a backer for the WTCC program.
