Daytona prepares for redevelopment

Daytona International Speedway has been given  the go ahead for a major redevelopment project set to be completed for the start of the 2016 season.

The project will see the front stretch stadium area modernised and changed drastically with new, larger seats, upgraded ticket gates and entrances, 40 escalators, 10 elevators and 11 football field size fan entertainment areas with new and additional restrooms, concessions and merchandise locations all set to be put in place.

However, with the new development, Daytona's seating capacity is set to reduce by up to a third of the current capacity. The reduction shouldn't cause too many problems however with Daytona struggling to sell out major events in recent years. Current account holders with Daytona International Speedway will be given priority once tickets in the new stadium section go on sale.

The work is scheduled to begin later this summer.
