Porsche pace practice at Silverstone

The reigning world champion Porsche team of Timo Bernhard, Mark Webber, and Brendon Hartley got their FIA World Endurance Championship title defence off to the best possible start by topping both Friday practice sessions at the Silverstone season opener.

The number one car led a Prosche one-two in both sessions with a fastest time of 1m39.655s being set in the second session of the day, beating their previous best of 1m42.182s set in the damp but drying earlier session.

Toyota and Audi took turns in third place with Antony Davidson, Sebastien Buemi and Kazuki Nakajima holding the place in first practice, ahead of Lucas Di Grassi, Loic Duval, and Oliver Jarvis' R18, which took third in second practice.

ByKolles were the fastest LMP1 privateer in first practice before Rebellion Racing showed their hand, placing first and second in the second session.

In LMP2 the Jota-run G-Drive squad was fastest in the first session with Strakka topping second practice.

GTE Pro honours went to Ferrari with the Italian squad taking the fastest two times in both sessions as Gianmaria Bruni and James Calado headed Davide Rigon and new recruit Sam Bird.

The GTE Am class was topped by the AF Corse Ferrari 458 and the Gulf Racing Porsche.
